The University of North Bengal (NBU) is a premier teaching and research institution that was founded in 1962 by an Act of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. It is accredited by the NAAC with a grade of B++ and is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of its Act. The Faculty of Arts, Commerce, and Law and the Faculty of Science and Technology of the university provide courses in a variety of fields. Along with regular programmes, the university has been a pioneer in establishing a variety of professional job-related courses to assist learners interested in developing skills to improve their learning and earning potential.
The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), NBU formerly known as Directorate of Distance Education was established in the year 2000. It is recognized by Distance Education Bureau (DEB), UGC, New Delhi. Realizing the importance of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode as an alternative mode of higher education, the CDOE NBU is offering seven courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels within the given constraints. It may be noted that the UGC, New Delhi have issued orders and notifications to the effect that degrees obtained through ODL mode shall be treated at par with those in the formal and regular mode of higher education [ link ] .
The CDOE NBU is committed to provide education at the postgraduate and undergraduate levels under ODL mode with a high level of quality assurance. CDOE NBU offers high-quality education, offering seven postgraduate courses in English, Bengali, Nepali, Philosophy, Political Science, History, and Mathematics, and an undergraduate course in B.Com. These programmes are available to learners of any age and location. In terms of knowledge and abilities, CDOE NBU wants the learners who will walk away with degrees to be able to readily compete with those from the conventional mode. By adding ICT tools and web-based services, the delivery methods for teaching-learning have been technologically enabled and significantly enhanced.
